Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Or, three chevronels enhanced Gules, overall a dexter gauntlet Sable garnished Or grasping a sword palewise Sable hafted of the second.  Attached below the shield a tripartite Black scroll doubled and inscribed SUSTAIN THE SWORD in Gold.

Symbolism
The colors buff/gold and scarlet are colors traditionally associated with Support Battalions.  The red chevronels are symbols of strength and denote the three types of support the Battalion provides (supply, maintenance and medical).  The gauntlet and sword allude to combat and military preparedness, reflecting the units mission as a Forward Support unit.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 11 May 1990.  It was amended to revise the description on 1 June 1990.
